FAQs: Enrichment

How do I register my child for an Enrichment Course?

  • At the top of the AVA website menu click, “Enrichment.”  Then click, “Registration: Enrichment.”  Follow the few short steps to complete the registration process.  One of our staff members will reach out to you within 48 hours to confirm your registration, answer any lingering questions, and share our excitement for your child’s participation.

Are there additional forms I need to complete for my child to participate in AVA Enrichment Courses?

  • In order for any child to participate in Enrichment Course activities, we must have on file signed copies of the Medical Release Form, Photo Release Form, and the AVA Policy on the Release of Children.
  • You may choose to scan these documents to the Head of School (kelly@andersonvanguard.com) ahead of the Enrichment Course, or you may bring them with you on the first day of the Enrichment Course.

My child has attended a prior Enrichment Course and/ or a Holiday Hangout.  Do I need to submit the additional forms (Medical Release Form, Photo Release Form, and AVA Policy on the Release of Children) again?

  • If your child has attended a prior Enrichment Course and/ or a Holiday Hangout, and there have been no changes to note for the Medical Release Form, the Photo Release Form, or on the AVA Policy on the Release of Children, it is not necessary for you to re- submit these items.
  • We will, however, require you to complete the Enrichment Registration Form to ensure we know your child is participating.

Where do the Enrichment Courses take place?

  • The AVA Enrichment Courses take place at Wilson Memorial Church located at 7 Valley Road in Watchung, NJ.  We will utilize the classrooms as guests of Wilson Memorial Church.

How long do enrichment courses run?  Does my child have to attend for the full ten week session?

  • AVA Enrichment Courses are designed for ten week sessions.  Each course meets once per week per the course schedule.  We understand that life happens, and while we do not typically offer a make up class, we will do our best to accommodate an absence.

What types of activities should I expect my child to participate in during an enrichment class?

  • Each Enrichment Course is designed with students in mind.  Our scope and sequence for activities often builds from the momentum established from the prior class meeting.  Additionally, our instructors spend many hours researching and creating guiding questions for student learning rather than pencil and paper tasks.  We expect all of our students to dive in and “get messy” with the materials, whether that’s in our STEAM/ MakerSpace course, or our Book Club for Kids course.

How much does an enrichment class cost?

  • Individual courses are $500 per class per child for the entire ten week session.  We are open to students who may want to attend a trial Enrichment Course before committing to the ten week time frame.

How do I submit payment for an enrichment class?

  • You will bring a check with you on your child’s first day of their Enrichment Course.  We offer many payment plans for families!

Are there makeup enrichment classes offered?

  • Like all human beings, our students have unique schedules that are subject to family, academic, and additional extra- curricular needs.  For AVA Enrichment Courses, once a student registers, he/ she is responsible for attending.  There are no refunds or makeup days offered, as the course schedule and curriculum is designed for ten week timeframes.  However, if a class must be canceled due to inclement weather, an instructor’s absence, or other unforeseen circumstances that warrants closure for an entire class, the instructor and Head of School will communicate with families regarding a makeup class.  AVA Enrichment Courses must begin on time to honor everyone’s schedule.  If students arrive late, they are welcome to still join the class, but we allow our instructors to begin at the designated class time.  It is recommended to arrive at class a few minutes early to allow time for a restroom break, collect necessary materials, and begin engaging with other students.

What should I do if my child has a suggestion for an enrichment class?

  • We would LOVE to hear about the idea!  Hearing more about our students’ continued passions and interests that might develop into an actual AVA Enrichment Course is our passion!  If your child shares a particular interest that could generate excitement among other students, please contact the Head of School to set up a new class, and we will work to find a passionate instructor to help guide the learning!  It’s all about the students at AVA!
